His latest strike edges him closer to eclipsing Austin Okocha’s goal tally in the Turkish Super Lig, achieved with Fenerbahce.

Osimhen delivers again for Galatasaray

Galatasaray, the reigning champions, entered the contest on a high after three consecutive clean-sheet victories, while Rizespor were still chasing their first goal of the campaign.

The hosts went ahead in the 20th minute when Gabriel Sara’s pinpoint corner found Davinson Sánchez, who buried a powerful header past the goalkeeper. Despite their dominance, Okan Buruk’s men couldn’t add to the lead before halftime.

Osimhen, however, ensured his presence was felt after the break. In the 65th minute, Abdülkerim Bardakcı floated in a precise cross, and the Nigerian striker rose highest to plant a firm header into the net, doubling Galatasaray’s advantage.

The strike was Osimhen’s second of the season and his 28th overall in Turkey’s top flight, helping Galatasaray to a fourth consecutive win and keeping them at the summit of the table with 12 points from four matches.

Osimhen closing in on Okocha’s legacy

Osimhen’s latest goal carries extra significance beyond Galatasaray’s strong start and the three points on the board.

The Super Eagles striker now sits on 28 Turkish Super Lig goals, placing him joint-sixth among Nigerian players to have featured in the competition.
