Amutavi, who is the fiancée to Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala, said her initial plan was to make Team Kenya for the All Africa Games which were unfortunately postponed to 2024 due to economic pressures and delays in preparation as revealed by the Local Organising Committee.

She was among the hundreds of athletes who turned up for the second Athletics Kenya meet which was held at the Nyayo National Stadium over the weekend and participated in the 100m race and the long jump.

“Right now, I am just working towards making the cut to the World Championships,” Amutavi said.

With field events gaining traction in Kenya, Amutavi believes in the next three years, the category will have gained popularity in the country.

She lauded Omanyala for proving that anything is possible. “We are here to change the narrative,” she said.

Amutavi noted that it is exciting to work with Omanyala because she gets to learn a lot from him. She added that Omanyala is her number one source of inspiration.

She concluded by appreciating Athletics Kenya for organising the meets saying it’s a good way to keep fit ahead of major global events.
