Ofili wins 200m silver medal at NCAA Indoor Championships

Favour Ofili produced her second-fastest indoor time in the 200m final, racing to a brilliant time of 22.20s to secure the silver medal.

Julien Alfred won the title, blazing to an exceptional Collegiate Record (CR) and the second fastest time in world history of 22.01s, to win her second title of the day after taking the 60m, also in a CR of 6.94s.

Alfred, drawn in lane 6, had the edge as Ofili had to do the catching up from lane 5. The Nigerian nearly succeeded at this, getting to her closely in the last bend, but Alfred finished strongly to deny Ofili her first NCAA title.

The University of Texas student has been in impeccable form since the start of the 2023 indoor season, so the NCAA Indoor Championships was just the icing on the cake, as her 60m and 200m winning times are the second fastest in world history.

Ofili will take solace in the fact that she ran bettered her African Record (AR) of 22.36s with a bleedy nose in her semifinal race, and her new record of 22.11s is the fourth fastest in world history.

There is still so much to look forward to outdoors, where she will be gunning to greater performances in preparation for the World Championships in Budapest.
