Premier League side Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche from Getafe.
The 21-year-old has been the subject of transfer news and speculation all summer. He initially tried to force an exit from the club at the start of the window but was rebuffed by the club and handed the No. 10 jersey as a reward for his remarkable debut season.
However, Getafe's precarious financial situation, which has prevented them from registering their new signings, has forced their hands. They have now eventually sold the Nigerian, days after he rejected Wolves and shared cryptic posts which suggested that he would stay.
The details
Crystal Palace announced on their club website they signed Uche on a one-year loan deal, with Getafe confirming that the loan move included a mandatory purchase option.
He will also be getting a different squad number, relinquishing the coveted number 10 which he recently inherited at Getafe, despite Eberechi Eze having vacated the number, as Yeremy Pino beat him to it at Palace. He will be getting the No. 12, most recently donned by right back Daniel Munoz.
Uche also shared his excitement about signing for the Eagles after putting pen to paper. “This moment is unbelievable. I'm very lucky to be here today and this club is a big opportunity for me," he told the club's website.
