NWFL top goalscorer joins Bayelsa Queens

The 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership top goalscorer, Mercy Omokwo, has joined Bayelsa Queens.

Mercy helped the Delta Queens win the NWFL Premiership title for the first time in 11 years last season.

She scored nine goals in 15 games for Delta Queens to emerge the top scorer.

Mercy was among the 10 players Bayelsa Queens unveiled for the 2023/2024 season of the NWFL Premiership.

Pulse Sports reports that NWFL will kick off on November 15 as Bayelsa Queens was drawn in Group B.

The talented striker appreciated the club, she said, "I need to appreciate Delta Queen FC before I make official match game for my new club. Where to start, for the last two years Delta Queens has been the biggest part of my life.

"I joined just to playing football and enjoy the game am leaving as a highest goal scorer in Nigeria Women Football League with League title. I cannot thank this club enough for everything it's done for me.

"The opportunities, the experiences, the highs and even the lows. All of it has been part of what has been a great development both as a human and a player. I am honoured to have represented this football club as often as I have,

I will like to thank all the players, managers, bosses and members of staff that have played a role in my time at the club."

Meanwhile, the Club Chairman Pastor Robin Apreala addressed that the club is set to win the League again.

“We’re already thinking here about winning the League. That’s the big dream now for all of us who are united by this universal allegiance that is Bayelsa Queens.

"We’re working hard to achieve it and once again accomplish something that to many may appear to be impossible. We’ve got a great squad. Several of our players have achieved a new feat in the history of the game," he said.
