NPFL defending champions Enyimba move on from Finidi George setback in style
The defending Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, champions Enyimba have moved on from Finidi George after sending out a stern title warning after thrashing Heartland 4-0 in a friendly ahead of the title run-in.
The People's Elephant responded emphatically following the departure of manager Finidi, who left to take over as head coach of the Super Eagles.
Enyimba move on from Finidi George
Any fears that Finidi's exit could derail Enyimba's title defence were quickly dismissed as they put Heartland to the sword.
Chijioke Mbaoma showed why he is the club’s top scorer this season as he led the way with a brace, while Chidiebere Nnachi and Ikenna Cooper were also on target in a 4-0 rout of the Naze Millionaires.
It was the perfect preparation for the NPFL restart later this month as Enyimba showed they mean business in their bid to retain their crown.
The two-time African champions currently sit third in the standings, four points behind league leaders Rangers International.
But this emphatic friendly victory sends out an ominous message that the Elephants remain focused amid the coaching upheaval.
Under the watchful eyes of Yemi Olanrewaju, assistant manager to Finidi, Enyimba looked like a cohesive, potent force as they blew away one of the NPFL's historic sides in Heartland.
With the likes of Mbaoma in lethal form, the Aba giants will back themselves to finish the job and secure back-to-back titles when the season resumes.
The Elephants will turn attention to the Round of 32 fixtures of the President Federations Cup and before focusing on the NPFL after the break.
