Now we must beat Nigeria, Rwanda: Rohr reacts to South Africa's 3-point deduction

FIFA announced on Monday that they would hit South Africa with a three-point deduction, and award the points and a 3-0 victory to Lesotho.

This punishment was for against Bafana Bafana for fielding an ineligible player Teboho Mokoena in their World Cup qualifier against Lesotho back in March.

The ruling has had a direct impact on Group C, as Benin Republic now sit top of the standings with 14 points, putting them ahead of South Africa on goal difference, and three points clear of Nigeria, who are also back in the hunt.

Rohr acknowledged the justice of the decision, insisting Benin will do all they can to navigate two tricky fixtures against Nigeria and Rwanda in order to qualify.

“The decision of FIFA to deduct three points from South Africa is a logical one but it’s coming very late, six months already that they had to do it,” Rohr said on Brila FM.

“Now we have two games to play, two very difficult games away in Rwanda and against Nigeria in Uyo, but we will try to qualify and remain humble," He said.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's chances of qualification have been boosted, but they must win their final two games against Benin and Lesotho, while hoping South Africa drop at least 3 points, to stand a chance.
