Reigning 200m world champion Noah Lyles has indicated that a potential move to the 400m event is unlikely to happen before the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, citing the intense training regimen as the primary obstacle.

While the Olympic 100m champion is primarily known as a 100m and 200m specialist, he has recently demonstrated his range by lowering his 400m personal best to 45.87 seconds back in April.

Although he plans to focus on perfecting the double through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he has always expressed his interest in challenging the 400m, but that will have to wait longer.

Speaking to reporters during a recent visit to India, where he served as the official starter for the Bajaj Pune Marathon, the American sprint sensation shared his thoughts on his future career path.

While he has experience in the longer sprint, Noah Lyles clarified that a serious competitive shift is not on his immediate horizon.

"I ran a 400m last year… but I don’t see it happening for me to run a competitive event," Noah Lyles stated. He emphasised that the difficulty lies not in the race itself, but in the preparation required to compete at an elite level.

"It’s not the race. It’s the training. That’s the hard part," he explained, highlighting the significant difference in conditioning needed for the one-lap event compared to his signature sprints.

As one of track and field's most recognisable stars, Noah Lyles's focus remains on the events where he has already achieved global dominance.

His appearance in Pune drew significant attention to the local marathon, and he used the opportunity to discuss a range of topics, including the World Athletics Awards and the distinction between his public and private life.

For now, fans can expect Noah Lyles to continue his reign in the 100m and 200m, with any transition to the 400m being a long-term consideration post-LA 2028.
