No chance for Barcelona and PSG as Bernardo Silva renews with Manchester City
Manchester City have announced that midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a three-year contract extension with the club, keeping him until at least 2026.
What happened
Bernardo Silva joined the Cityzens in the summer of 2017 from Monaco and has been an integral part of many successes with the club.
He has 308 appearances for the Premier League champions under his belt, winning five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups, two community shields, and the grandest of them all, the Champions League.
Despite the many successes and his importance to Guardiola's team, the Portugal international has been linked away, with reports suggesting that he seeks a challenge elsewhere.
Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were the most keen, with the LALIGA champions hampered by their finances, while the French side were said to have even agreed on personal terms before the deal broke down.
He will now stay put and seek to continue to be important to many more successes for the Champions League holders.
What Bernardo Silva said
The former Monaco man was elated to put pen to paper, and he expressed this by saying he loved his manager and teammates and hopes to be part of many more great memories with City.
“I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City, and I’m delighted to extend my time here,” Bernardo said, per the club’s website.
“Winning the Treble last season was extremely special, and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion.
“Success makes you want even more, and this Club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning.
"I love the manager, my team-mates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years.”
