Niclas Fullkrug: The experienced striker Manchester United need to help Hojlund - Not Zirkzee
Dwight Yorke, the legendary Manchester United striker, has made his voice heard on the club's transfer plans this summer.
However, this time, he's not just criticising the potential signing of Joshua Zirkzee, but also advocating for a more experienced striker to be brought in to support Rasmus Hojlund.
Manchester United and Fullkrug
Yorke believes that Hojlund, Manchester United's £72 million signing last summer, needs an experienced player alongside him to help him adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
The former striker is concerned that Hojlund struggled towards the end of the previous season and will come under intense scrutiny if he doesn't start the new campaign strongly.
This is where Fullkrug, the Borussia Dortmund striker, comes into the picture. Yorke states that Fullkrug is the type of experienced striker that the Red Devils should be targeting to provide the necessary support and guidance to Hojlund.
Niclas Fullkrug is one of those experienced strikers who has been smashing in the goals lately," Yorke said per MSN.
"But, he needs to be the right character. To be at Man United, you need to show resilience and not a weak mentality, that's what Sir Alex Ferguson was good at finding."
Yorke's comments highlight the importance of having the right blend of youth and experience in the squad. While Hojlund's potential is undeniable, the former United striker believes the 21-year-old needs to "grow up very quickly" to thrive at Old Trafford.
Fullkrug scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists last season across competitions to fire his German club to the final of the Champions League, while Hojund scored 16 goals and provided two assists in his debut campaign at Old Trafford.
The addition of Fullkrug, a 31-year-old striker who has been in impressive form for Borussia Dortmund and Germany, could provide the necessary stability and guidance for Hojlund to develop into the world-class striker that United, who are chasing more Dutch players, hope he can become.
Dwight Yorke's endorsement of Fullkrug as the experienced striker the club needs could prove to be a crucial insight for the Red Devils as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
But despite his disapproval of Zirkzee’s chase, according to several reports, the Dutch-born Nigeria has completed his medical as a new Manchester United player. The forward will join from Bologna after leading the club to a historic Champions League qualification.
He scored 12 goals and provided six assists for Bologna last season in all competitions.
