Newcastle Utd 1-3 N/Forest: Chris Wood's hattrick 'Burns' Magpies to bail out Ola Aina
Chris Wood stole the show with a remarkable hat-trick as Nottingham Forest came from behind to beat Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Boxing Day.
Wood’s heroics handed new manager Nuno Santo his first win while serving as a timely bailout for Nigerian defender Ola Aina on Tuesday afternoon.
Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest: Aina’s mistake
The Magpies started on the front foot and got a gift from Nigerian defender, Aina.
Nigeria’s Aina fouled Alexander Isak in the box and the Swede made no mistakes from 12 yards to put the hosts ahead.
However, Newcastle United saw their lead wiped off just before the break when Anthony Elanga set up Wood for an easy tap-in as both sides remained level at half.
Wood’s Heroics
After the break, it became the Elanga, who got two assists, and Wood show as Nottingham went on a rampage to add two more goals.
The former Newcastle United forward gave Forest the lead for the first time when he rounded the home goalkeeper to make it 2-1 in the 53rd minute.
He completed the riot on the hour mark when he was put through on goal by a majestic Murillo pass to wrap up his first hat-trick in two years and the win.
What the result means
Newcastle United lost for the seventh time in nine matches while Forest’s first win under new manager Nuno ended a run of seven matches without a victory in the Premier League.
