The Nigerian forward, who played a key role in La Dea’s Champions League campaign, is now being linked with Napoli and Juventus, as he looks for a fresh start away from Bergamo.
Lookman-Gasperini rift sparks exit talks
Lookman’s potential departure comes after a heated exchange with Gasperini following Atalanta’s Champions League exit to Club Brugge.
The Super Eagles star came on at halftime, scored an immediate goal, but later missed a crucial penalty, which he took despite not being the designated taker according to Gapserini.
The Italian gaffer was brutal in his criticism, calling Lookman “one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen”.
The Nigerian international fired back with a statement expressing that he found the coach’s remarks “hurtful and deeply disrespectful”.
This incident appears to have been the final straw, especially since Lookman was already keen on a PSG move last summer—a transfer that never materialized. Now, the 27-year-old is looking for a way out, with several clubs on alert.
Napoli and Juventus lead the race for Lookman
Reports suggest that Napoli, who have had their own issues with another Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, are interested in signing Lookman as they rebuild their attack following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s January exit.
Meanwhile, Juventus are also keeping an eye on the winger, especially if they decide to revamp their forward line in the summer.
According to Calciomercato, Napoli and Juventus are the two most serious contenders for Lookman’s signature.
Napoli, where Osimhen became a global star, are actively searching for attacking reinforcements, while Juventus could overhaul their attack, possibly funding moves with a Dusan Vlahovic sale.
Atalanta reportedly value Lookman at €60 million but could be forced to drop the price after the recent drama with Arsenal and Liverpool also showing preliminary interest.
