Nairobi United Eye Historic FKF Cup Final as Giant-Killers Target Mara Sugar Next With Gor Mahia Waiting
National Super League winners-elect Nairobi United will be taking on Mara Sugar in an FKF Cup semi final clash at Dandora Stadium hoping to maintain their momentum of taking down bigger clubs.
The Nicholas Muyoti-coached outfit aim to become the first team to seal continental qualification even before playing a single top-flight match.
Nairobi United, who lead the NSL table on 65 points after 31 games, have so far taken down teams like Tusker, KCB and Kakamega Homeboyz on their way to the semi finals, and look set to light up the top flight alight next season.

Mara Sugar, who started brightly in the league before struggling mid-season, have also surprisingly done well in the cup, and took down Kenya Police 9-8 on penalties last weekend at the same venue.
They will be hoping that a win over Nairobi United will seal them a place in the final against Gor Mahia, who themselves are also hungry for the league title as they aim to become the first side since Tusker in 2016 to complete the double.
Mara Sugar Aim To Make History
“Our immediate task is to progress to the final. We know Nairobi United is a good team, but we have prepared well for the game," said Mara Sugar team manager Gilbert Ledama as quoted on The Star.
"They are a good team with experienced players. They eliminated experienced teams, so we cannot underrate them. We are equally strong because we bundled Kenya Police out of the tournament.”
“We want to be the first team from Narok County to win silverware and represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup,” added the team manager.
Muyoti Making Nairobi United Believe
Under the guidance of Muyoti who joined mid-season after leaving Nairobi City Stars, Nairobi United have put together an impressive campaign with 19 wins, 9 draws and just 4 defeats. They have found the net 48 times and conceded only 22 goals.
Originally founded in 2015 as Balaji EPZ FC, the club underwent a transformation in 2022 when it was renamed Nairobi United FC.
A major turning point came in September 2024 when Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, through the Sakaja Foundation, acquired the club with bold promises of investment in youth development, infrastructure, and recruitment.
Should Nairobi United dispatch Mara Sugar, they will set up a mouthwatering final against Gor Mahia, who are also chasing a domestic double—the first since Tusker FC achieved the feat in 2016.
With history beckoning on both sides, Sunday’s showdown promises high drama and possibly another chapter in Nairobi United’s extraordinary season.
