Nairobi City Stars furiously hit back at Kenya Police over intimidating jibe regarding Mohammed Bajaber

Since scoring his maiden goal for Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, in stunning fashion against The Gambia during their thrilling 3-3 draw last week, Mohammed Bajaber has been the name on every fan’s lips, sparking excitement about his future.

That night, Gambia’s Musa Barrow opened the scoring for the Scorpions in the 55th minute, before Yankuba Minteh doubled their advantage in the 61st. 

However, Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga halved the deficit in the 69th minute, setting the stage for Bajaber to announce himself on the international scene with a superbly curled finish into the far corner, leaving defenders scrambling in his wake.

Barrow struck again in the 84th minute, but William Lenkupae’s late equaliser ensured a share of the spoils. 

Bajaber’s impressive display earned him a starting spot against Gabon on home soil, and although Kenya suffered a 2-1 defeat, his performances have cemented his status as an emerging star.

Yet, those who closely follow Kenyan football already knew he was destined for greatness.

Bajaber honed his skills at Starfield Academy, one of Kenya’s premier football institutions. In 2021, he underwent trials at Danish top-flight club FC Midtjylland before signing for Nairobi City Stars in February 2022. 

Over time, he established himself as a key figure at the club, netting 11 goals in 69 appearances. His talent earned him a Ksh 1 million move to FKF Premier League contenders Kenya Police, where he has already scored six goals since joining at the end of February.

Thus, when he found the net for the national team, Nairobi City Stars took great pride in his achievement.

On their X (formerly Twitter) page, City Stars posted: “Hapa nayo tulipatia nchi mchezaji (We truly gifted the country a top player).”

Kenya Police, however, were quick to stake their claim, responding with a bold retort: “Thanks, but he is now ours.”

This remark did not sit well with City Stars, who swiftly fired back with a scathing response: “Mko insecure sana, nani amesema sio wenu, ama bado hamuamini ni wenu lazima mtangaze? (You lot are too insecure. Who said he isn’t yours? Or do you still not believe it and feel the need to announce it?)”

The online exchange showcased the budding  rivalry between the two clubs, both of whom take immense pride in their role in shaping Bajaber’s career. 

As the young star continues to make waves, it remains clear that his journey to the top is only just beginning.
