Naija Stars Abroad: Super Falcon takes shine off Victor Boniface, Tella, AFCON 2023 MVP & in-form 6ft 7'' giant
In a weekend filled with thrilling performances by Nigerian players across Europe, one name stood out above the rest - Jennifer Onyinyechi Echegini, the Super Falcons star outshone the likes of Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, delivering a woman-of-the-match display for Juventus Women.
Echegini, who joined the Italian giants on a free transfer in January, continued her impressive form, scoring one and assisting another in Juventus' 3-2 win over Sassuolo.
Naija Stars Abroad: Echegini leads Super Eagles stars Boniface, Tella
The 23-year-old has now found the back of the net 10 times in just 14 matches for the Old Lady, cementing her status as one of the biggest Nigerian stars in Europe at the moment.
While Echegini stole the headlines with her brilliant display, Boniface and Tella also had reason to celebrate alongside William Troost-Ekong.
The duo of Boniface and Tella ended the season unbeaten with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, with Boniface netting his 14th goal of the campaign in a 2-1 victory over Augsburg on the final day.
Troost-Ekong returned to fitness at the right time to help PAOK dramatically claim the Greek league title.
Another Nigerian making waves abroad was Paul Onuachu. On loan from Southampton, the towering striker scored the only goal as Trabzonspor defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 1-0 to secure Europa League qualification in the Turkish Super Lig.
Onuachu's fourth striker in as many matches for his club and 15th league goal of the season proved to be the difference.
Cyriel Dessers also made his mark, providing his seventh assist of the season as Rangers were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Hearts in Scotland.
In the English Premier League, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey played crucial roles in Fulham's 4-2 victory over Luton Town.
The Super Eagles duo and their Fulham teammates made sure to send their compatriots, Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo, down to the Championship in style.
Taiwo Awoniyi, a late substitute for Nottingham Forest, also helped his side secure a 2-1 win over relegated Burnley.
Overall, it was a weekend to remember for the Naija Stars Abroad, with several players showcasing their talent and contributing to the success of their respective clubs.
