Morocco’s Ounahi set to join Marseille

Morocco’s World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi is set to become an Olympique Marseille player, with the French giants reported to have reached an agreement with Angers for his transfer.

The 22-year-old midfielder received a lot of suitors following his impressive performances with Morocco, helping them become the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-final. The well-courted star is now set to switch Ligue 1 clubs, ending a transfer window-long saga.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Marseille have reached an agreement to the tune of €10 million with Angers for the transfer of Ounahi.

The deal is said to be in its final stages with both clubs reaching a full agreement. Marseille would have beaten Premier League clubs like Leeds United, and Serie A leaders Napoli for the signing of the talented midfielder.

Marseille are said to be in personal talks with the player after his current club, Angers, accepted their bid.

Ounahi’s performance at the World Cup and the number of clubs he appealed to suggested a move would have been made earlier in the window, but that is not the case.

The Casablanca-born midfielder had many clubs in the race for him, with each alternating pole position throughout the window, including Napoli, West Ham, Leeds, Leicester, and even LaLiga giants Barcelona.

The saga now seems to be over, with the midfielder getting his well-earned move, that signifies a step-up in his career.
