Mohamed Salah’s Agent Opens Up on Future of Departing Liverpool Legend
Mohamed Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas, has moved swiftly to quash speculation about the player's next club following the Egyptian's announcement that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old forward confirmed he will depart Anfield in May, bringing his celebrated nine-year tenure to a close. This decision comes just a year after he signed a two-year contract extension reportedly worth £400,000 per week. Salah will leave the club by mutual agreement, effectively as a free agent.
In response to mounting rumours about Salah's future, Abbas took to social media to set the record straight. "We do not know where Mohamed will play next season," he posted on X. "This also means that no one else knows. Beware of the click-whoring attention seekers."
Despite Abbas's statement, interest in the prolific winger is expected to be high. Last summer, Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad made a substantial £150 million bid for Salah, and it is anticipated that they and other clubs in the region will renew their interest. His free-agent status could also attract attention from major European clubs and teams in the MLS, where he has been previously linked.
Salah announced his departure in an emotional video message to the fans. "Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season," he began. "I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life."
Liverpool Pay Tribute to Departing Hero
He continued, "Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory together, we won the most important trophies, and we fought together through the hardest time in our lives."
In a heartfelt tribute to the supporters, Salah added: "The support you showed me, through the best time in my career, and the toughest time—it's something I will never forget. I will take it with me always. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
Liverpool FC acknowledged the announcement, stating that Salah wished to provide clarity to the fans out of respect. The club confirmed that a full celebration of his legacy will take place at the end of the season, as the team remains focused on the current campaign.
Salah will leave Anfield as the club's third-all-time leading goalscorer, with 255 goals in 435 appearances. His trophy cabinet includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. He has also won the Golden Boot four times and was named PFA Players' Player of the Year three times.
Speculation about his departure had grown earlier in the season. In a December interview, Salah revealed a strained relationship with manager Arne Slot after being left on the bench, stating, "It seems like someone does not want me in the club." However, the relationship has since been mended, ensuring the Egyptian star will receive a hero's farewell from the Anfield faithful.
