Millions Harambee Stars Will Miss Out on Following CHAN 2024 Elimination
Harambee Stars players have benefited greatly from their participation in the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) with each player pocketing Ksh5 million at the group stage.
Benni McCarthy’s men will earn more after making it to the quarter-final but that is the end of the cash windfall after they were eliminated by Madagascar on Friday.
Harambee Stars lost 4-3 on post-match penalties, having drawn 1-1 in regulation and extra-time, to take the match into the shootouts where they ultimately met their waterloo.

That has seen Kenya miss out on at least Ksh77 million from tournament organisers CAF while the players and members of technical bench will not also get an additional Ksh70 million and a two-bedroom house promised to them by President William Ruto had they made it to the semi-final.
How Much Does Harambee Stars Stand to Lose?
At the 2024 tournament, winners will pocket $3.5 million (Ksh451 million) while runners-ups take home $1.2 million (Ksh155 million) from CAF.
Meanwhile, $700,000 (Ksh90 million) and $600,000 (Ksh77 million) is the reward reserved for teams that finish third and fourth respectively by the tournament organisers.
This is what Harambee Stars have missed out on as making it to the semi-final would have seen them either reach the final or play the third-place playoff that would have earned them at least Ksh77 million.
President Ruto had also promised the team Ksh600 million had they won CHAN 2024 but they will now have to watch as the rest square it out for the big-money reward.
It has been a great tournament for Kenya nonetheless as few gave them a chance of advancing from a tough Group A that had Morocco and DR Congo, both two-time winners, COSAFA champions Angola, and Zambia, yet they finished top.
