Olunga, who was not selected by coach Benni McCarthy for this month’s friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal, used his free time well with his club Al Arabi being the main beneficiaries as he netted twice on Sunday.

Al Arabi made it four straight wins when they thrashed Qatar SC 5-1 and Olunga played a prominent role. Pablo Sarabia netted twice in the 24th and 40th minutes with Olunga also sealing his brace, the first in the 34th minute before the second in the 50th.

Qatar SC pulled one back on the stroke of halftime but they had no answer for Al Arabi, who completed the rout with Yazan Al-Naimat’s 81st minute strike.

Olunga Reacts to His Man of the Match Award

Olunga was crowned the Man of the Match and the Kenyan striker expressed his excitement following a good day at the office.

“Straight outta Maldives. Brace, Man of the Match. Only one Ogada Olunga,” the former Al Duhail striker posted on Facebook.

Olunga took his tally to six goals in eight league matches while it is now four in as many games, as he begins to show the form that made him a cult hero among Al Duhail fans during his four years at the club that he left as the all-time top scorer in May this year.

Following the big win, Al Arabi are now in sixth place on the 12-team Qatar Stars League standings with 16 points from 10 games, although they are far off title contention as leaders Al Gharafa have 25 points.
