In a formal statement, the NEC announced it had met the May 1 deadline to respond to FIFA's correspondence from April 26. The world football governing body had requested a detailed explanation following a controversial resolution passed around April 24, which provisionally required FKF president Hussein Mohammed, Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru, and NEC member Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim to step aside.

"The NEC remains fully committed to continued cooperation with both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as this matter is accorded the seriousness and attention it deserves," the statement read in part.

FIFA, working alongside CAF, has initiated an assessment to gain a "clear and accurate understanding" of the events leading to the decision and to determine if the process complied with FKF statutes.

The NEC stated that its submission thoroughly addressed all issues raised by FIFA and was supported by relevant documents, records, and evidence to ensure a transparent review. The committee emphasised that its actions were purely precautionary and administrative, intended to protect the federation's integrity and allow any potential investigations to proceed without interference.

"The NEC has not made any findings of wrongdoing against any individual," the committee clarified, reaffirming its commitment to accountability, good governance, and adherence to FKF, FIFA, and CAF regulations.

FIFA's inquiry highlighted several key governance concerns, questioning how the April 24 NEC meeting was convened, whether quorum and voting procedures were correctly followed, and if the suspended officials were given their right to be heard as stipulated in Article 41 of the FKF statutes.

The global body had requested comprehensive documentation, including the meeting notice, agenda, attendance records, and voting results. It also sought confirmation that the officials were provided an opportunity to defend themselves before the resolution was passed.

The letter from FIFA, signed by Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov and also sent to CAF, signals the serious attention both governing bodies are giving to the situation in Kenyan football.

The NEC has urged all stakeholders to remain patient and allow the review process to conclude, promising further updates as the joint FIFA and CAF assessment continues.

Twelve FKF NEC members resolved to suspend Mohammed, Ibrahim and Gicheru over allegations of corruption in relation to a Ksh42 million CHAN 2024 insurance deal awarded to a newly-formed firm against lower bids from well-established companies.
