FKF in Line for Over Ksh1 Billion Windfall as FIFA Increases Development Funding
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is set to see an increase in their allocation from FIFA after the world football governing body announced a 20 per cent rise in development funding to member associations.
The 2027-2030 FIFA Forward 4.0 funding will increase by 20 per cent to all 211 FIFA member associations, taking the total sum to a new high of $2.7 billion (Ksh348.8 billion).
In the previous cycle of 2023-2026, Kenya had been allocated $8 million (Ksh1 billion) of which Ksh600 million was budgeted for the construction of a Technical Development Centre (TDC) in Machakos and a 20 per cent increase would take it to $9.6 million (Ksh1.2 billion).
This would amount to $2.4 million (Ksh310 million) per year to FKF from FIFA in the new cycle. FKF had, however, not accessed the FIFA funding after a freeze owing to the country's ban in 2022 until last December when the resctriction was lifted.
Funding to Address Infrastructural Needs
While the Technical Development Centre in Machakos is in the final stages of approval, FKF can still apply for a new project to be funded by the FIFA forward 4.0, 2027-2030 cycle.
The money is broken down into different expenditures such as project, operations, travel and equipment costs as per the needs of each member association.
FIFA said in its Annual Report 2025 that Forward investments will reach a new high in the next cycle as part of a broader expansion in football development funding for member associations.
“FIFA is fulfilling its mission to improve and promote the game globally by reinvesting unprecedented resources into football,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
“This is not just about numbers, but about concrete outcomes, such as more opportunities to compete at the highest level for men, women and youth players, as well as better infrastructure and enhanced access to technology across all our FIFA Member Associations, to mention but a few.”
