Mason Mount Reveals Manchester United Target After Disastrous Season
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has underlined the club’s determination to bounce back from a dismal 2024-25 campaign by securing European football in the upcoming season.
Mount, who joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2023, described a return to continental competition as the club’s central objective.

“Europe is massively important for us,” he said while speaking during United’s pre-season tour in the United States as quoted by BBC Sports.
“The Champions League would be amazing, and as a group, we want to be playing in that competition. But I'd say Europe in general is the focus.”
United’s absence from Europe marks a painful chapter in the club's storied history.
The 15th-place league finish, their lowest in decades, combined with a Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur, means Manchester United will be without European football for just the second time since the 1980s.
The last time Old Trafford missed out on the continental stage was in the 2014-15 season.
Aggressive Rebuild Underway
In response to the crisis, the club under Ruben Amorim has moved quickly in the transfer market, spending over £125 million to strengthen the attack.
Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves, while Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo also made the switch to Old Trafford.
Despite these reinforcements, United continue to be linked with other attacking options like Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson are rumored targets.
Reports suggest that winger Alejandro Garnacho could potentially be involved in a swap deal, though United sources have played down the speculation.
While a portion of the squad is currently in the U.S. for the three-match Premier League Summer Series, featuring fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, others have stayed behind.
Garnacho, along with Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, are training at Carrington.
Transfer interest continues to swirl around several of these players as Real Betis are reportedly keen on bringing Antony back after a loan spell, while Juventus remain interested in Jadon Sancho.
Mason Mount, who endured a stop-start debut season marred by injury and inconsistent form, is now expected to take on a bigger leadership role as the club looks to rebuild.
With the pressure mounting on both the squad and the coaching staff, Mount’s comments reflect a renewed sense of urgency at United.
“We know what this club expects. Playing on the European stage is where Manchester United belongs, and we’re determined to make that happen again," he concluded.
