Marvin Odongo's charges played with the hunger and desire to lift the title while Kobs choked under pressure.

Pirates head coach Marvin Odongo believes it is the fact that his side wanted it more that they ended up landing the title, his first as head coach.

"The boys just wanted it more," Odongo told Pulse Sports after the game.

"The boys just wanted it more, man.

"These guys, they turned up and wanted it more than anyone else, and the reward was there."

Three first-half penalties by Ivan Magomu set the pace for the Sea Robbers on enemy territory as Kobs failed to punch back in the first 40 minutes.

The visitors were superb in every aspect of the game and kicked well for territory to ensure most of the action was deep inside the Kobs' half.

And when opportunities presented themselves, with Kobs severally punished for infringements, Magomu was flawless from the tee.

Timothy Odongo and Desire Ayera scored Pirates' two tries on the day, while Magomu made sure with the extras.

The tactician highlighted self-belief and trust as factors that have pushed the Sea Robbers to the finish line in a title race that went on until the season's final day.

"Self-belief, trust the man next to you and push throughout the game, and they did that today for each other."

Pirates ended the season on 79 points, two ahead of second-placed Heathens, while Kobs fell from the top to third and ended the season on 75.

Having landed their second league title, Pirates will now focus on collecting more to close the game between themselves and the top two sides.

Kobs have 13, while Heathens are on 16.
