Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is set for another head-to-head in the Championship with Nigeria Super Eagles hopefuls.

Amad will fight it out for the Championship Fans’ Player of the Year award having been listed alongside Chuba Akpom, Nathan Tella and four others.

Amad Diallo has had a successful loan season at Sunderland, where he scored 14 goals and assisted three more.

The 20-year-old saw his loan deal at Sunderland come to a painful end on Tuesday night with two Nigerians playing key roles in the defeat to Luton Town in the playoff.

The Ivorian youngster was helpless as Luton ended their Wembley dream following a brilliant night in their Championship playoff second leg.

England-born duo of Nigerian descent Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo featured as the Hatters defeated the Black Cats 3-2 on aggregate.

Adebayo opened the scoring in the first leg with Amad inspiring a 2-1 come-from-behind win for Sunderland at the weekend.

In the second leg, Osho repeated the feat when he poked home from a goal-mouth scramble to inspire Luton to a deserved 2-0 win en route to picking a ticket to Wembley.

Following that defeat, the Ivory Coast forward will now switch attention to the Championship award where he will face the duo of Chuba Akpom and Nathan Tella for Player of the Year.

Award Brief

The 2022/23 award has six nominees with Amad, Akpom and Tella up against the trio of Viktor Gyokeres, Iliman Ndiaye and Calton Morris.

Gyokeres of Coventry contributed 31 goals (21 goals, 10 assists), Morris contributed 27 goals (20 goals, 7 assists) for Luton Town while Ndiaye had 24 goals contributions (14 goals, 10 assists) for Sheffield United.

Nathan Tella scored 17 goals and assisted five more to help Burnely to Premier League promotion.

The Championship award is open to legal residents in the United Kingdom, who are 16 years old and above at entry.
