Frank Ilett, a fan from Oxford now living in Spain, pledged on October 5, 2024, that he would let his hair grow until the Red Devils secured five consecutive victories. That moment could finally arrive on Tuesday night at the London Stadium.

After more than a year of waiting, United have built a four-game winning streak under interim manager Michael Carrick, defeating Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham. This run of form has brought Ilett, known online as "The United Strand," into the spotlight.

Carrick Acknowledges Viral United Fan

The story has even reached the United camp, with Carrick acknowledging the fan's commitment in his pre-match press conference. "I can say I'm aware of it, yeah. My kids have made me aware of it," Carrick said. "I can understand what's going on with it, and it does make me smile, but it won't have an impact ultimately in the end."

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ilett praised the team's recent performances under Carrick's leadership. "It's been amazing since he first came in," he said. "I’m glad as well that it’s not been like five easy teams either. We had to beat City and Arsenal and even Spurs and Fulham. They can be tough to beat on their days."

When asked about his planned hairstyle should United triumph, the 29-year-old confirmed he intends to start fresh. "To start with, it needs to be kind of cut off in bunches," Ilett explained. "But then, yeah, I think probably a buzz cut all over and start again, start fresh."

What are Man United Players Saying?

The fan's challenge has also been a topic of conversation among the players. Following the 2-0 win against Tottenham, Bruno Fernandes was questioned about Ilett's hairy situation but remained focused on his own grooming. "I need to book for myself, I don’t look at other people," Fernandes commented. "I don't look if they need to go to the hairdresser or not, that is not important for me.”

However, a source told The Sun that the players are enjoying the story. "The players are really enjoying their recent upturn in fortune and the vibe at the training ground is very positive," the source revealed.

"They are well aware of Frank because he pops up on their social media. Some of them were having a laugh and a joke and said: ‘Come on, let’s give this guy a haircut’."
