Man United approach Caicedo replacement after failing to land Super Eagles star
Manchester United have reportedly approached Carlos Baleba’s representatives to discuss the signing of the Cameroon international, as they are keen on adding bodies to their current midfield options.
Manchester United transfers and midfielder pursuit
The Red Devils have been active this transfer window, focusing almost exclusively on Premier League-proven stars with the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
Their interest in signing a midfielder has lasted the length of the window, having been previously linked with a move for Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
The Super Eagles star is available for a €9 million release clause, and the Red Devils were reportedly interested as they viewed him as a Premier League-proven talent available for cheap. However, the former Genk midfielder has now agreed to personal terms with Super Lig side Beşiktaş and is close to joining the club.
Baleba pursuit
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported today that the Premier League giants have contacted Baleba to ask about his situation and availability this summer.
However, it is understood that Brighton have no intentions of parting with the 21-year-old.
The Seagulls signed Baleba in the summer of 2023 to replace Moises Caicedo, who joined Chelsea. The Cameroonian has established himself as one of the top players in his position in the Premier League. He has a contract until 2028; hence, Brighton have the leverage and will be expected to demand a significant fee to sell him.
Brighton billed Chelsea £115 for Caicedo, a similar profile in similar circumstances. Manchester United might have to pay close to that to prise the defensive midfielder away.
