Lyles vs Hill Cancelled: Highly anticipated race matchup called off due to 'personal reasons'

The hotly anticipated matchup between world's fastest man Noah Lyles and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been canceled on account of "personal reasons".

According to ESPN, Lyles said that plans were to hold the race against Hill this weekend in New York's Times Square.

"We were very deep into creating the event," the Olympic 100m champion told reporters at the Stagwell Global Sport Beach event in Cannes, France. "In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend.

"Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn't come to pass, but we were full on. We were going to shut down New York's Times Square and everything, it was going to be a lot of fun."

Hill had laid down the gauntlet on his readiness to give Lyles a top fight when the NFL star clocked an impressive legal time of 10.15s (1.2) to win the men's 100m event at the Last Chance Sprint Series in Los Angeles.

The time broke his Personal Best (PB) set way back in 2012 when he was 18 years old, and it was his first official 100m race since 2014.

Shortly after his brilliant performance, Hill brought out a written note with the inscription "Noah Could Never" in retaliation to Lyles as a response to his "Tyreek Could Never" after Lyles won his 60m race at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.

Hill has boasted that he could beat the six-time world champion in a race, leading to plenty of trash talk between the two men.

Lyles, who has yet to compete outdoors this season, also mentioned that many people, including potential sponsors, believed the planned race against Hill was merely talk.

"A lot of people didn't believe it to be true. They thought it was just, 'Oh, this is just them talking online," he said. "The companies didn't believe it's real."

Meanwhile, Hill has responded to the cancellation with an X post trolling Lyles.
