Lionel Messi names two legends who taught him how to play free-kick
Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has revealed two footballing legends that have impacted his ability to score freekicks.
The former Barcelona man is one of the best dead-ball specialists in the modern game, specifically freekicks, having scored 62 so far in his career.
He has now revealed the football legends who gave him tips on how to improve his technique.
What Messi said
The Qatar 2022 champion is currently in China for Argentina's national team duty. In an interview with local Chinese media outlet TTPlus, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was questioned about his highly acclaimed free-kick ability.
Although he emphasised the importance of constant individual practice, he revealed that his former Barcelona teammate Ronaldinho and the late Argentina legend who coached him with the Albiceleste, Diego Maradona, taught him a lot.
Messi will captain the world champions in two friendly games scheduled for later this month. They play Australia on June 15th and Indonesia on June 19th.
"It depends on continuous training, and you can improve that skill every day. Ronaldinho taught me a lot and Maradona taught me a lot. But the most important thing is to keep training."
