Lionel Messi drops World Cup bombshell
After winning a staggering 42 winner's medals for both club and country and a record seven Ballon d'Ors, the Barcelona legend is on the verge of a switch to MLS side Inter Miami.
When asked whether he could lead Argentina to one more World Cup, he told Titan Sports : "I think not”
He added: "[2022] was my last World Cup. I will see how things go, but in principle no, I will not go to the next World Cup."
What next for Messi
Messi has agreed to join MLS side Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham and the deal is expected to be formalised in a few weeks.
Messi's arrival in the MLS is expected to play a big role in driving the popularity of the sport to new levels ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the US will be hosting alongside neighbours Mexico and Canada.
