Leeds come out tops against gritty Wolves in six-goal thriller

Leeds came into this tie against a rapidly improving Wolves side, knowing they had to start picking up results fast with the threat of relegation looming. 

Javi Gracia’s Leeds started off like a house on fire as they pressed and harried everything in sight. 

Their efforts would pay dividends within ten minutes, as Wilfried Gnonto broke into the box and laid a nice pass on a plate for Jack Harrison who made no mistake from 12 yards.

Leeds made it two at the start of the second half. With the Wolves' backline slow to react, Luke Ayling headed a cross back across goal and into the net.

Rasmus Kristensen then made it three for Leeds when he slipped an expert finish through the legs of Jose Sa and at that point it felt as though this was over as a contest.

The poor conditions contributed to Woles finding a goal of their own just minutes later. Leeds keeper, Illan Meslier’s headed clearance was nowhere near good enough and Jonny executed a fine lobbed finish from all of 40 yards.

Matheus Cunha then scored a second for Wolves to increase the noise from the home support. Just as Wolves threatened to find another gear, Jonny crashed into Ayling with a sliding challenge to receive his marching orders. 

With Wolves now down to ten, Leeds sealed the victory thanks to Rodrigo who applied a fine finish at the very end to complete the job and send the away fans into delirium.
