Janat Chemusto: Ugandan middle-distance runner handed four-year ban

Ugandan middle-distance runner Janat Chemusto has been banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for four years for doping violations.

Chemusto was found guilty of a prohibited substance, 19-Norandrosterone, which is connected to the use of Nandrolone.

Findings from the World Anti-Doping Agency reported that Chemusto's urine samples presented Adverse Analytical Findings showing the presence of the 19-Norandrosterone.

This apparently violates both Article 2.1 and Article 2.2 of the World Anti-Doping Rules and Regulations.

Chemusto had initially been suspended in August this year upon discovery of the substance, and she subsequently missed the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

She had qualified in the 1,500m race after an impressive performance at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, as she clocked 4:01.79.

Following the ruling, all her results, titles, medals, points, appearance, and prize monies from May 13 will be nullified and taken back, respectively.

Meanwhile, Chemusto's legal team attributed the presence of Norandrosterone to medications between January - April this year.
