Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham has ruthlessly sacked his former teammate at Manchester United Phil Neville at Inter Miami.

Neville and Inter parted ways following another painful defeat in the Major League Soccer, MLS, this season.

The former Man United defender and his club suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against New York Bulls in the Eastern Conference.

It was the fourth defeat in the last five matches for Neville and Inter in the MLS.

Beckham sacks Neville

The former Manchester United star has been at the club for almost two-and-a-half years before he was relieved of his role.

Inter’s defeat against New York Bulls was the 10th in 15 matches this season and became the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Following the loss, fans of the club turned on the former red according to Daily Star, with his ex-teammate and club co-owner, Beckham, left with no other option but to fire Neville.

Beckham explained why he was left with no other choice but a sack and wished Neville well.

Beckham explains the decision

"When we appointed Phil we knew he would give Inter Miami his all and I have watched him work incredibly hard and with real commitment towards the ambitions we set out for the club,” Beckham stated.

"He and his family embraced Miami and he has devoted himself to the drive to bring success to the city and to our fans. Phil has made a real contribution to the culture of our club with his qualities as a leader and knowledge as a coach.

"Sometimes in this game, we have to make the toughest decisions and sadly we feel the time is right to make a change. I want to personally thank Phil for his hard work, his passion for our Club and for his integrity as a person," he added.

Neville and Beckham spent over six successful years at Manchester United and were part of the famous class of 92 who led the club to the treble in 1999.

Assistant Coach Javier Morales will assume the role of Interim Head Coach effective immediately while Assistant Coach Darren Powell, Goalkeeper Coach Sebastián Saja, and Assistant Coach and Performance Analyst Alec Scott will remain in their current roles.
