A number of Middle East nations have closed their airspace since the war started on Saturday and it has now spilled over to sports.

Gulf states that have been affected include Lebanon where the Kenyan trio play with all turning out for Nejmeh SC, who are coached by former Harambee Stars boss Engin Firat.

However, since Saturday, no football activity has taken place after the Lebanese Football Association decided to suspend all matches indefinitely, citing the rapidly evolving security situation in the region.

In an official statement released on Saturday, the federation confirmed that the decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety in light of recent escalations.

The move brings an abrupt halt to all scheduled matches and tournaments across the country. The federation explained that the postponement was necessary given the current circumstances and the need to prioritise the well-being of players, staff, and spectators.

Officials stated that new dates for the postponed fixtures will be determined and announced at a later time, pending further developments in the region.

The statement read: "The Lebanese Football Federation announces the postponement of all matches, tournaments, and activities effective today until further notice. This is due to the current circumstances and in the interest of public safety. New dates will be determined later according to developments."

That saw Nejmeh’s match against Al-Ahed among those suspended with the club in third position on the 12-team league with 31 points from 15 matches, 10 behind leaders Al-Ansar, who have played two games more.

Juma and Akumu have been at the club since the season started while Odhiambo joined them in January. This is the second time the Lebanese league is being suspended due to war in over a year after current Nairobi United striker Benson Omala was also caught up in a similar situation in September 2024.
