Harambee Stars: Kenya's Proud CHAN 2024 Record that Remains Unbeaten

Harambee Stars might have been eliminated from the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) at the quarter-final but they set a record that will not be beaten.

Benni McCarthy’s men fell to Madagascar after losing 4-3 on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time but they exited the tournament with their heads held high.

This is not just because they played with confidence and quality throughout but also remain the only team that scored in every match they featured in.

At this year’s tournament, no other team scored in every match, a record Harambee Stars will pride themselves with following their flawless run.

Kenya started with a 1-0 win over DR Congo before a 1-1 draw with Angola, when they played for over 70 minutes with 10 men, after Marvin Nabwire had been sent off early.

Harambee Stars then beat Morocco 1-0, playing the second half with 10 men, following Chris Erambo’s red card, but still managed to keep at bay the two-time winners.

McCarthy’s men would complete a memorable group stage with a 1-0 victory against Zambia when Ryan Ogam scored late to help them top what had initially been seen as the ‘Group of Death.’

Having qualified for the quarter-final, they were on course for a win after scoring early in the second half through Alphonce Omija’s header but Madagascar drew level via the penalty spot 21 minutes from time and held firm to force the match into extra-time and post-match penalties.

It is a fine run that has got both the team and fans believing and there is hope that they can build onto it heading into future assignments.

Attention now shifts to CHAN 2024 semi-finals which will be played on Tuesday as Madagascar face Sudan while Morocco take on defending champions Senegal.
