Harambee Stars Duo Power Zambian Giants to League Title Glory With Four Games to Spare
Harambee Stars strikers Moses Shumah and Emmanuel Osoro have won their first league title in Zambia after playing a key part in Power Dynamos retaining their crown.
Power Dynamos won the Zambian Super League crown back-to-back for the first time in their history and a ninth overall title following a 2-1 win away to Konkola Blades on Saturday.
The Kitwe-based outfit were quick off the blocks when they broke the deadlock in the 17th minute through Chifundo Mphasi.
Power Dynamos would waste a number of opportunities which they were made to pay for as Konkola Blades equalised in the 40th minute through Kelly Kayembe’s header.
The champions were not pegged back for long, however, as they quickly restored their one-goal lead when Samuel Ayodeji headed home from a corner for 2-1 at the break, a lead they held on to win the game.
Kenyan Forwards Key to League Title Win
Victory took Power Dynamos to an unassailable 70 points from 30 games, 15 more than second-placed Red Arrows, and more interestingly, there are four games still left to play.
Shumah, who has been the main driving force for the league title triumph was not involved in the match due to illness while Osoro was named on the substitutes’ bench.
Former Kakamega Homeboyz striker Shumah, has taken to life in Zambia like fish to water as he has 21 league goals, which makes him the league’s leading scorer, and will be looking to be involved in the final matches of the season to add to his tally and win the Golden Boot.
It has been a successful debut season in Zambia for the Kenyan duo who joined the club last July after great campaigns in the FKF Premier League with Osoro linking up with the side from FC Talanta.
With the title wrapped up, Power Dynamos will shift focus to the ABSA Cup while Shumah will be looking to break the single-season scoring record of 26 goals set by ex-Zanaco forward Winston Kalengo 20 years ago.
