Harambee Starlets Striker Unveils Plan to Contain Sam Kerr, Tabitha Chawinga in FIFA Series
Harambee Starlets forward Valerie Nekesa has expressed optimism ahead of the upcoming FIFA Series set for April 11–15 at Nyayo National Stadium.
Harambee Starlets are set to face Australia, India, and Malawi in the inaugural tournament, with the team aiming to deliver strong performances against quality opposition.
The competition will feature several high-profile players, including Australia’s Sam Kerr of Chelsea FC. Steph Catley of Arsenal WFC and Tabitha Chawinga have also been named in their respective squads, setting up a stern test for the Kenyan side.
Valerie Nekesa Optimistic Ahead of Inaugural FIFA Series
Valerie Nekesa said the team had begun preparations on a positive note, with players showing strong energy and commitment from the very first training session, which had created a motivated and focused atmosphere in camp.
She explained that the intensity displayed early on reflected the squad’s determination to perform well in the upcoming matches.
The Harambee Starlets striker added that with the full squad now assembled, the focus over the training period would be on building understanding, strengthening teamwork, and improving coordination among the players.
According to her, this period together would be crucial in helping the team develop cohesion and sharpness, ensuring they are well-prepared and able to perform effectively when they take to the pitch in the international fixtures.
“We started training yesterday, and the mood in the camp is great because the players have started at a high tempo. This means that everyone is determined to give their all,” Valerie Nekesa told FKF Media.
“Now that the team has come together, for these two weeks, we shall work together and gel and make sure that when we go to play in those friendlies, we shall be okay, and we will have the chemistry.”
Harambee Starlets will face India at 6.00 pm on April 11, while Australia will take on Malawi earlier at 2.00 pm at the same venue. The matches are crucial for Harambee Starlets ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
