Gor Mahia’s Title Push Receives Massive Lift as Key Duo Return to Training
Gor Mahia have received a lift in their quest to win the FKF Premier League title as defender Sylvester Owino and goalkeeper Bryne Omondi have returned to training following injury lay-offs.
Owino limped off during Gor Mahia’s 3-1 win over Ulinzi Stars on March 15 and has missed the club’s last two games as well as Harambee Star’s FIFA Series in Rwanda last month but he is now back on the grass as he looks forward to a return to competitive action.
“Guess who's back to light sessions... God's speed!” the club posted on social media as Owino was taken through his paces.
In his absence, Gor Mahia have relied on Frank Odhiambo and Michael Kibwage at centre-back but his return will add depth and competition for places in the team as they look to reclaim the league title that they last won in 2024.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia have also issued a positive update on Omondi, who is on the mend after a groin injury that has kept him out for a number of weeks.
K’Ogalo’s League Push Boosted
“Keeper Omondi has been training well, recovering fast from the groin injury that has kept him out for a while. He will be back in action soon. Speedy recovery Kenya 1,” K’Ogalo updated.
Omondi, who joined the club ahead of this season, has been the first-choice goalkeeper, but his injury opened the door for Gad Mathews, who returned to the fold, and has done a commendable job.
Coach Charles Akonnor will have a hard time deciding how to field Owino and Omondi when they return as the aforementioned have performed admirably in their respective roles so far.
Gor Mahia have a tricky match against Tusker FC on Tuesday but the game will come too soon for the recovering duo.
K’Ogalo lead the 16-team league standings with 57 from 26 games, two more than bitter rivals AFC Leopards, who have played a game more.
