Gor Mahia striker Felix Oluoch has made significant progress in his rehabilitation from a major knee operation, returning to the training pitch for light sessions as he works his way back to full fitness.

Oluoch’s season was derailed earlier this year when he was sidelined by a complex knee issue. Unlike standard ligament strains, the forward underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus and an osteochondral injury, a serious condition involving damage to both the joint cartilage and the underlying bone.

While a meniscus tear is common in high-impact sports, the osteochondral component adds a layer of complexity to the recovery.

These injuries require precise surgical intervention to ensure the joint surface remains smooth, preventing long-term degenerative issues like early-onset arthritis.

Gor Mahia Team Doctor Gives Update

According to Lead Team Doctor Brian Odongo, the focus has shifted to functional movement. Oluoch is currently back in training under the rigorous supervision of the medical and strength-conditioning staff.

"There is positive progress for Felix as he continues his recovery journey following a knee surgery," Dr Odongo confirmed to the club.

The medical team is utilising a phased approach to ensure Oluoch’s knee can withstand the high-velocity demands of professional football.

"He has resumed light training sessions under close medical supervision as he gradually works towards full fitness and a return to competitive action," Odongo added.

"His recovery has been encouraging, with the focus remaining on safe loading, strength building, and controlled reintegration into team activities."

Meanwhile, Oluoch’s potential return to the training ground comes at a critical juncture for Gor Mahia. Despite losing their top scorer, who had netted seven goals before his injury, the record champions have maintained a relentless pace at the summit of the Kenyan Premier League.

Gor Mahia sit nine points clear at the top of the table with 64 points. With rivals AFC Leopards trailing in second, the return of Oluoch to any form of training provides a massive psychological boost.

Head Coach Charles Akonnor has had to rely heavily on other strikers to shoulder the scoring burden, and while the title is within touching distance, having Oluoch back in the mix for the final stretch will be a major boost.
