K’Ogalo host bitter rivals AFC Leopards in the 98th Mashemeji Derby on Sunday with eyes on three points, seeking to bounce back from their shock 4-1 loss to APs Bomet.

Gor Mahia have bossed this fixture in recent years, although both teams drew in the two matches played last season. However, Charles Akonnor’s team will have to do it without two key players on Sunday.

Winger Bryson Wangai and midfield powerhouse Lawrence Juma will play no part in the high stakes match as they are nursing injuries sustained in recent days.

What is the Nature of the Duo’s Injuries?

“Bryson is in the final phase of recovery from an ankle injury sustained against Tusker, nears full return; Lawrence Juma is under rehabilitation after sustaining a groin injury. Both will not be available for selection on Sunday,” K’Ogalo provided an update on the two.

Fleetfooted winger Wangai sustained the injury in Gor Mahia’s 1-0 victory over Tusker on November 22 and while he is close to coming back, the match against Leopards will come too soon for him.

Akonnor will, however, be delighted that the treatment room has just those two after a scary incident early in the week when Austin Odhiambo, Felix Oluoch, Fidel Origa, Joshua Onyango, and Enock Morrison escaped unhurt following road accidents.

Gor Mahia head into the match top of the FKF Premier League table with 19 points, level with Kakamega Homeboyz, from nine games while Leopards are in eighth, five points behind.
