The incident occurred along the busy Outering Road as the group made their way to the team’s scheduled training session, disrupting the club's routine just days before their biggest match of the season.

The players involved—midfielders Austin Odhiambo and Fidel Origa, defender Joshua Onyango, and forward Felix Oluoch—were travelling together in a private vehicle when the mishap took place.

According to reports, the quartet sustained minor injuries during the crash and they were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency assessment, where medical professionals treated them and cleared them of any serious or life-threatening internal complications.

The club moved swiftly to calm the anxiety of the "Green Army" fanbase, taking to social media to confirm that while the event was scary, the players were out of danger.

“Four of our players, Austine, Fidel, Joshua and Felix were involved in an accident this morning en-route to training; all the four players were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and discharged. They are all fine,” Gor Mahia FC (@OfficialGMFC) posted

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was not caused by reckless driving, but rather a sudden mechanical malfunction. The group, who reside in the same area and routinely carpool to the training grounds, found themselves in a perilous situation when the vehicle's braking system reportedly failed, causing the car to veer off the busy highway. The crash forced the vehicle off the road, resulting in the injuries sustained by the players.

Mechanical Failure Blamed

A source close to the team, who requested anonymity, provided specific details regarding the terrifying moments leading up to the collision.

The insider clarified that the players were adhering to their usual schedule when the car developed the fault, leaving the driver with no way to halt the vehicle safely.

“The players were coming to training as usual because they come from the same area so they use one car and one of them was driving but the breaks broke and he couldn’t stop the car which led to them crushing but none has some serious injuries they are being treated at a local hospital and we hope they’ll be better,” said the source as per SportPesa blog.

Derby Preparations Stalled

The repercussions of the accident were felt immediately at the training ground. In response to the incident, the Gor Mahia technical bench and club leadership agreed to cancel Friday’s training session entirely.

This interruption serves as a significant blow to K’Ogalo’s preparations for the highly anticipated 98th Mashemeji Derby. The team is currently building up to face their eternal rivals, AFC Leopards, on December 7.
