Gor Mahia are the latest victims of fifth-tier club BB Bread who added them to their list of casualties following a stunning 1-0 win in the FKF Cup on Sunday.

The Kayole-based minnows rose to fame when they eliminated AFC Leopards on post-match penalties in the Round of 64 and served the same dose to Gor Mahia on Sunday as they continued their fairytale run by making it to the Last-16.

In a game when Gor Mahia failed to capitalise on their chances, the lower league side left it late before securing the giant killing win.

Gor Mahia Pay for Missed Chances

In a scene reminiscent of the Biblical David vs Goliath, BB Bread were unfazed by Gor Mahia’s pedigree and history as they scored six minutes from time and held on to secure the big victory.

K’Ogalo were the dominant side during the match played at Nyayo Stadium with Ben Stanley Omondi and Patrick Escombe coming close in the first half while Shariff Musa had a great opportunity upon resumption as Enock Morrison saw his long-range effort hit a defender.

Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor had made wholesale changes to his side with only Frank Odhiambo keeping his place from the team that drew 1-1 with Posta Rangers in midweek.

K’Ogalo Stunned Late in the Game

The players given a chance did not, however, cover themselves in glory and by the time the tactician was introducing some of his big hitters in the second half, the visitors had grown in confidence.

The killer blow arrived in the 84th minute as against the run of play, Reagan Chaulimu squared the ball to Denis Muthini, who fired past Kevin Omondi in the Gor Mahia goal to seal passage into the round of 16 for the minnows.

Gor Mahia, who reached the final of the competition and lost to Nairobi United last season, will now have to win the FKF Premier League to secure a return to continental football as winning the FKF Cup comes with a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup while league winners seal a ticket to the Champions League.
