Harambee Stars Trio Finally Secure Escape from War-Torn Lebanon as Austin Odhiambo Watches Gor Mahia Lose to BB Bread
Harambee Stars players Austin Odhiambo, Anthony Akumu and Masud Juma finally returned to the country after being granted permission by their Labanese club.
The Kenyan trio had been caught up in the ongoing conflict involving Israel, United States and Iran with Lebanon among countries hit by retaliatory strikes.
The country's capital Beirut has been targeted by strikes after fighting restarted between Israel and Hezbollah following the United States and Israel’s war on Iran.
This has left at least 41 people dead with over 500,000 displaced, as per the country's Ministry of Health, while sporting activities were suspended indefinitely over a week ago.
That includes the Lebanese league where the Kenyan players turn out for Nejmeh SC under the tutelage of ex-Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat.
Odhiambo Watches as K'Ogalo Get Stunned
Odhiambo took the opportunity to catch up with his former team Gor Mahia as he was in attendance at Nyayo Stadium when K'Ogalo suffered a shock 1-0 loss to fifth-tier side BB Bread to exit the FKF Cup at the Round of 32.
The playmaker left Gor Mahia for Lebanon in the January transfer window and was settling in at his new club before the security situation worsened.
Odhiambo had joined Juma and Akumu at the club after the other two signed for Nejmeh before the start of the campaign.
Nejmeh were third on the league table by the time the league was suspended with 31 points from 15 matches, 10 behind leaders Al-Ansar, who have played two games more.
