Owalo, who was installed as the new K’Ogalo patron in October following the demise of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, appears not just keen to lift the record Kenyan champions but the country as well.

The former ICT Cabinet Secretary is currently on a tour of the United Kingdom where he met officials of high-flying Premier League club Bournemouth on Saturday and discussed areas of partnerships that could boost Kenyan football.

What Did Eliud Owalo Discuss With Bournemouth?

“This evening I held a meeting with management of Bournemouth Football Club led by the club President Jim Frevola, Commercial Director Rob Mitchell and Partnerships Development Manager Sam McIntyre,” Owalo posted on social media.

“Our discussions were centred on exploring opportunities for partnerships with Bournemouth FC in developing football in Kenya.

“Earlier, we joined the management of the club in watching an English Premier League match at the Vitality Stadium where the home team rallied from two goals down to hold West Ham United in a pulsating match played before a capacity crowd,” added Owalo, who was accompanied by Kenya’s Deputy Head of Mission in the UK Joseph Warui.

The Cherries are Reaping Fruits of Good Management

It is still not clear if any deal was struck and what nature of the partnership Owalo is seeking but Bournemouth have become a model for other clubs around the world when it comes to prudent utilisation of resources, good recruitment and nurturing of young talent.

The Cherries have been scouting and recruiting great talents at lower fees, turning them into superstars and selling them at big profits, while they have also invested heavily in proper structures, the highlight being the opening of a £32 million state-of-the-art training centre in April 2025.

Bournemouth are already reaping the rewards as after finishing in an impressive ninth place last season and losing three key defenders in Ilya Zabarnyi (Paris Saint-Germain), Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid) and Milos Kerkez (Liverpool) for a combined €180 million, yet they are still impressing this term.

They came down from 2-0 down at halftime to draw 2-2 with West Ham on Saturday which leaves them seventh on the Premier League standings with 19 points, just one behind the top four.
