Gabby Thomas Sends Warning to Shericka Jackson, Sha'Carri Richardson After Impressive Season Opener
Despite a powerful season-opening performance at the Texas Relays, sprinter Gabby Thomas is keeping her eyes on the bigger picture, emphasising that there is still "lots of work to do" as she builds towards the Olympic year.
The triple Olympic champion clocked an impressive 11.00 seconds in the 100m, winning the event and matching her personal best.
The run was particularly notable given the cold and wet conditions, signalling strong early-season form. Gabby Thomas, who opted to skip the indoor season to focus on training, expressed a measured perspective on her performance. Rather than celebrating the result, she framed it as a foundational step in a long campaign.
Gabby Thomas Speaks After Season Opener
In a social media post following the race, Gabby Thomas shared her mindset. "One of the better season openers today," Gabby Thomas wrote.
"Got the win at Texas Relays & tied my 100m PB in some cold and wet conditions. Having tons of fun. Still lots of work to do this season. Gonna keep chopping wood."
This disciplined approach comes after a challenging 2025 season where injuries disrupted her momentum, forcing her to withdraw from several key races to focus on recovery.
Her gradual return this year appears to be paying off, with this strong start indicating she is back to full strength.
Her comments after the race further highlighted her process-oriented strategy. "The goal for today was to do exactly what I did," Thomas explained.
"I knew it wasn’t going to be a perfect race, but I have a lot of strong points in my race that I was focused on executing today, that I know will translate later on in the season to some faster times."
Gabby Thomas's ambition is clear. After securing a bronze medal in the 200m at the Tokyo Olympics, she enjoyed a stellar 2023, winning silver in the 200m at the World Athletics Championships and contributing to the U.S. 4x100m relay team's victory.
She also claimed a gold medal in the 200m at the Paris Olympic Games. Now fully focused on her track career after completing a master's degree in epidemiology, her sights are set on achieving even greater success in Paris.
Her insistence on continuous improvement, even after matching a personal best, underscores the drive that makes her a top contender.
