Kishane Thompson Breaks Linford Christie's Long-Standing Record at Miramar Invitational
Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson delivered a stunning performance at the Miramar Invitational on Saturday, setting a new world best in the 150m with a time of 14.92 seconds.
Competing at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event in Florida, the Olympic and world 100m silver medallist surpassed the previous mark of 14.97, set by Linford Christie in 1994.
While faster times have been recorded on straight tracks, Kishane Thompson's time is the new benchmark for a standard track.
This was Kishane Thompson's first race since claiming silver in the 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships just two weeks prior.
He was challenged throughout the race by Zimbabwe's Tapiwanashe Makarawu, who also finished under the old record with a time of 14.96.
Jamaica celebrated a double victory in the 150m as Tia Clayton won the women's event in 16.87 seconds. She led a Jamaican sweep, finishing ahead of Briana Williams (16.92) and her twin sister, Tina Clayton (17.00).
