FIFA releases three-person shortlist for The Best Men's Goalkeeper Award

FIFA have announced the final shortlist for their FIFA Best Men's Goalkeeper Award, a three-person list.

FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper Award is given to Male goalkeepers for their exploits over a period of time. The period under review for this year's award is from August 8, 2021, to December 18, 2022. 

The top three men’s goalkeepers, according to FIFA, are as follows:

Yassine Bounou (Morocco, Sevilla)

Thibaut Courtois(Belgium, Real Madrid)

Emiliano Martinez(Argentina, Aston Villa)

Yassine Bonou

Bonou was an integral part of Morocco's success in Qatar 2022, helping them become the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper made two penalty saves in Morocco's penalty shootout triumph over Spain and was heroic in goal as his team resisted a barrage of Portuguese attacks to beat them 1-0 on their way to making history.

Bonou has also been impressive for his club, helping Sevilla claim the best defensive record in Spain for the 2021/22 season.

Thibaut Courtois

On their way to a league and Champions League double, Courtois was arguably Real Madrid's best player after Karim Benzema.

The 30-year-old was exceptional in goal as Real Madrid grabbed wins from the jaws of defeat against PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City. He was unbeatable again in the Champions League final, as Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0.

Courtois is a previous winner of this award, clinching it in 2018.

Emiliano Martinez

Martinez was the standout goalkeeper in Qatar 2022, earning the golden glove as well as the World Cup trophy.

He was particularly instrumental in Argentina's penalty shootout wins over the Netherlands and France, as well as making a late save that denied Kolo Muani from winning the game for France.

Martinez has also been impressive for Aston Villa since he joined them from Arsena
