FIFA Ranking: Harambee Stars Fly Past Tanzania Thanks to Grenada Thrashing
Kenya’s big win over Caribbean side Grenada has had a positive impact on their FIFA ranking following the latest update.
Harambee Stars finished their FIFA Series campaign with a 3-0 win over Grenada on Monday thanks to goals from Austin Odhiambo, Ryan Ogam and Zech Obiero, finishing third at the four-team tournament.
Kenya had earlier suffered a post-match penalty loss to Estonia on Friday, losing 5-4, having played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
However, the loss to Estonia had little bearing on their FIFA ranking as they lost 0.54 points but the win over Grenada gave them an additional 3.23 points, taking their tally to 1,182.23.
Where is Kenya Ranked?
What that means is that Kenya have moved up two places on the global ranking to position 111 up from 113 before the FIFA Series, a positive from their recent outing in Kigali, Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Estonia, who lost the final 2-0 to Rwanda, remained unchanged at position 129, with the Amavubi moving two places up to 128 for winning the FIFA Series, having also thrashed Grenada 4-0, while the Caribbeans still moved up one place to position 163 despite the big losses.
Globally, Spain has lost their top spot to France, dropping to second position, while Argentina, England, Portugal, Brazil, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany complete the top 10.
Morocco is the top ranked African nation followed by Senegal (14th globally), Nigeria, 26th in the world, Algeria (28th in the world) and Egypt, 29th in the world, completing the top five.
In East Africa, Uganda remains top at position 88, Kenya second (111), Tanzania third in position 113, having dropped three places. Tanzania were hugely impacted by their 1-0 loss to Liechtenstein last Thursday, seeing them lose 8.15 points.
