Fans hail magician Ozil on retirement at 34

Former Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil announced his retirement from football on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Ozil at the age of 34 announced his retirement on his social media platforms and received an outburst of congratulations from fans and colleagues.

He had a successful career highlighted by winning the  Spanish La Liga title with Real Madrid in 2012 and four FA Cup triumphs with Arsenal.

For Germany, Ozil made 92 appearances and was an integral part of the team that lifted the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The statement by Ozil on social media said, "It has been an amazing journey filled with unforgettable moments and emotions."

"I've had the privilege to be a professional football player for almost 17 years now and I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity.

"But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, it's become more and more clear that it's time to leave the big stage of football."

Ozil beloved by Arsenal and Real Madrid fans was praised for his accomplishments in the sport and with their team.

Arsenal and Real Madrid fans took to social media to celebrate Ozil as he rose to the top of the trends.

Multiple football organizations also joined in the celebration with videos of Ozil.

Ozil's skills were highlighted in several videos as well as boosting his reputation with some of the exquisite assists on the goal.

The general reaction to Ozil's retirement were positive especially from Arsenal fans although his departure from the club was difficult.
