'Elimination isn’t in my head' - Messi's coach Mascherano insists as Inter Miami target first-ever conference final
Inter Miami is heading into its Eastern Conference semifinal showdown against FC Cincinnati brimming with belief, as head coach Javier Mascherano has declared that he is not entertaining the idea of an early playoff exit.
The Herons face The Orange and Blue on Sunday at TQL Stadium, aiming to reach their first-ever conference final in club history.
With a full week of preparation and the return of several key players, Miami say they are entering the match at the peak of their form.
What Mascherano said
The Argentine manager emphasised the strong mentality within his squad, insisting the team is ready for the high-stakes clash.
He praised the unity and momentum within the dressing room, adding that the group feels well-positioned to deliver a top-level performance.
“It’s not in my head to think about elimination. We're very well-prepared for the match,” Mascherano said.
FC Cincinnati, known for its formidable home record, finished the MLS regular season level on points with Miami. But Mascherano made it clear that his side respects the challenge while maintaining complete faith in their capabilities.
“It’s a very important match. we go with a lot of belief and are ready to do everything possible to reach the Conference Final next week,” he stated.
Inter Miami received a major boost as Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul returned from international duty earlier than usual. Both players have trained consistently throughout the week, giving Miami precious tactical stability.
“They were already training with us on Monday. That’s been a big advantage for us,” Mascherano revealed.
The only uncertainty surrounds defender Ian Fray, who sustained a knock during Jamaica’s recent match. His availability will be determined on the day of the game.
