Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi claimed there is a “God of football” as his side earned a last-gasp victory over Manchester United to boost their hopes of European qualification.

De Zerbi was crushed after his Brighton side lost to Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup semifinal last week, insisting it was an unfair result.

On Thursday night, Alexis MacAllister scored a 98th-minute penalty to give the Seagulls a 1-0 win over the Red Devils which boosted their European hopes and offered De Zerbi's men sweet revenge.

“There is a God of football because we deserved to win in the semi-final,” De Zerbi said. “In both games, I think we played better than United. The last result was unfair.

“We dominated the game against one incredible team but now we have to play another six very tough games in the race for European qualification.”

Brighton are currently 6th, 8 points behind Manchester United in fourth. There is a very real possibility of the club finishing in Europa League places which will be an amazing accomplishment.
